The Dakota NDT FX81-DL flaw detector and thickness gauge combines two tools into one. The time corrected gain (TCG) feature automatically compensates for sound attenuation through a material, further increasing the performance of the gauge. The thickness gauge features pulse-echo, echo-echo, pulse-echo temp comp, coating thickness, and pulse-echo coating thickness modes. The flaw detector DAC allows up to 8 points that can be entered and used digitally to draw a DAC curve. Within the grid batching, the user has the capability to enter 'OBSTRUCT' on to the grid for easy identification of inaccessible locations to measure .

Additional features include two tone burst pulsers with voltage of 100 to 400V. The FX81-DL model includes broadband 1.8-19MHz frequency band as well as six narrow bands at 0.5MHz, 1MHz, 2MHz, 5MHz, 10MHz, and 15MHz. Timing is provided by a precision TCXO timing with single shot, 100MHz, 8-bit ultra low power digitizer .

The FX81-DL has 4Gb internal memory and an external SD slot that allows up to 64Gb with full data logging via RS232 data output to DakMaster data management software. It features auto probe zero, recognition, and temperature compensation, and can capture up to 50 readings per second in high speed scan mode. Sixty-four user-definable setups are transferrable to and from a PC archive .

Display options include flaw detector views (full wave, +/- rectified, or RF) and thickness gauge views (digits, +/- rectified, RF, or B-Scan). The Blanview sunlight readable QVGA TFT color display ensures visibility in various lighting conditions. Factory calibration is traceable to NIST & MIL-STD-45662A, and the unit comes with a 2-year limited warranty .
