The Dakota NDT FX71-DL flaw detector and thickness gauge combines state-of-the-art flaw detection with advanced material thickness capabilities. When the FX71-DL gauge is set to thickness gauge, it measures coatings and material thickness simultaneously. When set to flaw detector, the gauge detects the size and position of flaws and differentiates between flaw types in various materials and welded joints. The user is able to set hi/lo limits for pass/fail indication with audible warnings and built-in differential mode for quality control inspections .

The FX71-DL gauge has a choice of display modes including A- and B-Scan displays and flaw detection modes such as TRIG, DAC, TCG, Flank, and Peak. The time corrected gain (TCG) feature automatically compensates for sound attenuation through a material, further increasing the performance of the gauge. Timing is provided by a precision TCXO timing with single shot, 100MHz, 8-bit ultra low power digitizer .

The FX71-DL stores up to 4GB worth of readings with A/B-scan images in alpha numeric batches with full data logging and firmware updates via USB-C data output to DakMaster data management software. It features auto probe zero, recognition, and temperature compensation, and can capture up to 50 readings per second in high speed scan mode. Sixty-four user-definable setups are transferrable to and from a PC archive .

Display options include flaw detector views (full wave, +/- rectified, or RF) and thickness gauge views (digits, +/- rectified, RF, or B-Scan). The 1/4 VGA AMOLED color display provides clear visibility. Factory calibration is traceable to NIST & MIL-STD-45662A, and the unit comes with a 2-year limited warranty .
