The OMIOLM001 is Emerson's RSTi-OM IO-Link master — an 8-port Class A device designed for cabinetless, on-machine installation with full IP67 protection. Each of the eight M12 ports can be individually configured as an IO-Link channel (with simultaneous digital input), a digital input, or a digital output — giving the machine designer the flexibility to connect smart IO-Link sensors (pressure transmitters, flow meters, RFID readers, distance sensors) and standard digital I/O devices (proximity switches, valve position sensors, indicator lights) to the same module. The IO-Link v1.1 implementation includes automatic device parameter storage: when a failed IO-Link sensor is replaced, the OMIOLM001 automatically downloads the stored parameters to the new device, eliminating the need for a laptop or a PLC-driven parameter download routine on the plant floor.

Multi-protocol from a single device

The OMIOLM001 runs PROFINET RT, Modbus TCP, OPC-UA, and MQTT simultaneously from the same hardware — the machine builder selects which protocol the PLC uses for cyclic I/O data (typically PROFINET or Modbus TCP), while OPC-UA and MQTT serve auxiliary functions: OPC-UA provides structured, browseable data to SCADA and MES systems without a PLC in the data path; MQTT publishes sensor data — including IO-Link secondary variables like temperature, run-hours, and diagnostic events — directly to cloud analytics platforms or on-premise IIoT brokers. SNMP v1 is also available for network management integration. The two Fast Ethernet M12 D-coded ports support daisy-chain and ring topologies with MRP (Media Redundancy Protocol), so a single Ethernet cable break does not isolate downstream devices. The built-in web interface provides port configuration, I/O mapping, and diagnostic views in a browser — no engineering tool installation required for initial setup or troubleshooting.

IP67 on-machine: the cabinetless I/O philosophy

The RSTi-OM family is designed for the cabinetless machine architecture: I/O modules mounted directly on the machine frame, connected by armored M12 cables, protected by their own IP67-rated housings rather than by a control cabinet. The OMIOLM001 mounts with two M6 bolts on any flat surface, within the machine's cable-tray network. The M12 sensor cables run directly to the IO-Link devices within a few meters — no terminal blocks, no marshalling cabinet, no cable duct from a remote I/O panel. For a machine with 50 sensors distributed across a 15-meter-long frame, cabinetless I/O eliminates roughly 200 meters of sensor cable by placing I/O points adjacent to the sensors they serve. The L-coded power connector delivers up to 16 A at 24 VDC — enough to power the master, all eight IO-Link ports (each supplying up to 200 mA of sensor power per Class A pinout), and the connected sensors from a single power feed. The OMIOLM001 is the bridge between the smart sensor layer and the industrial Ethernet backbone — and because it speaks four protocols natively, that bridge does not lock the machine into a single control platform.
